Mega FTAs and the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) in the Asia Pacific Region: Will It Be Cooperation or Competition?

The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and the Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific (CPTPP) are two mega free trade agreements (FTAs) in Asia Pacific region. However, theireconomic interests rather deeply divided related to political security issues. Trade conflicts between U.S.and China have continued since 2018. To tackle Chinese expansion, Biden administration initiated Indo-PacificEconomic Framework (IPEF) 2021 instead of returning CPTPP. This article reviews FTAs theIPEF, as well East Asian collaboration competition It examines countries’ economicinterests participating IPEF considers how overcome protectionism caused by thetrade G2.
